A Queens native, Senator Peralta grew up in the borough’s public schools and firmly believes that quality public education should be available to all New Yorkers. As a member of the Senate Education and Higher Education Committees, Senator Peralta has been a leading voice in the struggle to improve the quality of our schools. From Albany, the Senator has worked to relieve school overcrowding, promote summer reading programs, and develop students overall learning experience. This admirable work is further exemplified by the 13 new schools containing 7,500 seats, including the permanent addition for P.S.143. Victories for the community and hard-working residents of the district include the historic $1.1 billion increase in school aid, free tuition at CUNY and SUNY colleges, and making prekindergarten truly universal.
